7-year old Illinois boy injured in head during target shooting

A 7-year old boy was with family members who were target shooting in Salisbury, Illinois, shooting at coffee cans with a 9mm handgun.  The boy was hit and injured in the head, either by a ricocheted bullet or by debris.

From the article:
Something ricocheted after the gun was fired and struck the boy in the head, Hayes said. However, he said it was too soon to say if the bullet hit the boy, a piece of the coffee can or some junk metal sitting behind the targets.
He said the incident appeared to be accidental in nature and nobody has been arrested. Only adults fired the registered handgun, he said.
The boy was initially transported to St. John’s Hospital before being airlifted by medical helicopter to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
His condition was unavailable.
