16 year old teen gunned down in Minneapolis

This article from the Star Tribune reports on yet another teen shooting. A Minneapolis teen was literally gunned down by another teen-aged boy. From the article:
According to charges, the youth allegedly admitted to pulling the trigger. He told police that he brought the gun to South High School that Friday and hid it nearby. After classes he retrieved the chrome revolver that he owned for two years and walked into the alley behind Sykes' home and confronted him. He pulled out the gun and shot Sykes as Sykes tried to run back into the house.
How does a teen-aged boy "own" a gun? Where do teens get their guns? And more from the article:
One witness said she saw youth pull out a gun and shoot Sykes as he was walking away, and knew the same three males were involved in a fight with Sykes' brother the week before. Another witness said the suspect pointed the gun at her and said "Think I won't kill you?" before he shot Sykes from three to four feet away as he turned his back.
A third witness said the youth pointed the gun at his head and asked if he had ever been shot before. Five witnesses identified him as the shooter from a photo lineup.
The two males with the suspect at the time of the shooting told police that he left South High School that afternoon and walked in the alley behind Sykes' home, and that he shot Sykes with a "cowboy gun."
Every gun in the hands of a child or teen must first pass through the hands of an adult.
