13-year old Chicago boy wounded and 14-year old girl almost shot

13-year old Rony Monzon and 14-year old Daneysi Valdovinos were sitting on the porch of their Chicago home when a man walked up and unloaded his gun on them.  The boy, Rony, protected Daneysi, who had grown up with him.  He was shot six times, including in the chest, arm, and hip, but has survived his injuries.

A motive was not released for the shooting, though the area has gang activity.

14-year-old Valdovinos said the shooter stood in the gangway just a few feet from where her and her friend were sitting, Wednesday night.

"We just see a guy pop out…shooting at us, like straight at me. But, all of a sudden my friend Rony, he stands up and is like, what's happening? And they shot him six times," Valdovinos added.

Monzon was shot in his chest, arm and hip. He was sent to Mount Sinai Hospital in stable condition Thursday. He was released from the hospital later that night.
